Why sign up for an energy assessment?”

A great investment… Energy Efficiency improvements typically provide a better rate of return than an investment in the stock market.
  • Electricity rates in Colorado have increased over 25% in the past 10 years.
  • 2001 Annual utility bill:   $1,600
  • 2011 Annual utility bill:   $2,000
Support your community… Spending less money on your utility bills helps keep more money in the local economy.
Make a safer home… An energy assessment will test the air quality of your home and alert you to hazardous conditions. We will even check for gas leaks.

What to Expect

The Home Energy Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of your home's energy use that includes the following:

  • A complete assessment performed by a certified energy analyst of your home's building envelope, mechanical systems and other energy users.
  • A Blower Door Test to measure the leakiness of your home
  • Infrared Imaging to identify drafts and opportunities to insulate the home, unidentifiable by the naked eye.
  • Combustion Analysis and Safety testing to test the air quality of your house and alert you to any potentially hazardous conditions.
  • A detailed report of your home's energy use, complete with specific suggestions for improvements.
  • A number of on-the-spot conservation measures to be installed during your assessment. Depending on the unique needs of your home, the analyst may install pipe wrap, energy efficient light bulbs, water heater blankets, weatherstripping and more.

Homes above 3,000s.f. or mechanically complex homes will incur additional costs, which you are responsible for. This amount is typically $.05 per square foot over 3,000, and $.10 per square foot over 6,000. They will accept cash or checks for this additional fee.

Quick Fix Items

During the assessment, and based on the age and condition of your home, we can install the following energy conservation measures, if applicable:
  • A programmable thermostat
  • Up to 10 Energy efficient light bulbs (CFLs)
  • Hot and cold water pipe insulation (up to 12 feet)
  • One hot water tank insulation blanket
  • Up to 2 low flow shower heads
  • A Low flow faucet aerator
  • Up to 10 outlet and switch gaskets
  • Door weatherstripping for up to 2 doors
